I am a Costa Rican artist living in The Woodlands, Texas. My passion for painting on silk began fifteen years ago. I continue to learn new things each day from this wonderful art medium! My inspiration for painting nature based themes derived from the experiences gained during my youth in Costa Rica and the wonderful memories I retain of those times.
I enjoy living where I’m surrounded by nature and The Woodlands provides me many opportunities to continue to do so. The colors, shapes, textures, light and shadows all provide strong inspiration for me. Even the smells and sounds of my beautiful garden can inspire me. It is these moments, when I’m outside “listening” to my senses that I imagine how I can put these feelings onto silk. These are the times when my original designs come alive in my mind.
Much of my silk art is represented by butterflies. Butterflies symbolize the metamorphosis of my journey as an artist.
The silk paintings are created using the memories from my Costa Rican youth and many represent animals in danger of extinction. They remind me of the beauty and yet fragility of nature, making it all the more critical that we all work to preserve these wonderful places, plants and animals.
